A bottom-fermented beer of the Bavarian type, characterized by a rich color, mild bitterness and high breadiness. Originally, this beer was brewed in March (März - hence the name). This was the last month when it was still possible to brew beer, then there was a danger of infection with wild yeast. This month, a large batch of stronger gradations was brewed to make the beer last through the summer. The remaining stock was replenished in September and October.
